This opportunity is for an experienced Registered Nurse with expertise in stepdown nursing care, specializing in cardiac and pulmonary patient management. The role is situated in an 18-bed Progressive Care Unit in Kansas City, KS, focused on patients requiring moderate physiologic support and continuous monitoring. This contract position offers a dynamic environment where nursing skills related to cardiac and respiratory care are essential. Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with conditions such as COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, CHF, and tracheostomy management. Perform continuous cardiac and respiratory monitoring at intervals of every 2-4 hours. Administer oxygen therapy using devices including nasal cannula, BIPAP/CPAP (up to 80%), and AirVo low flow systems. Conduct vital signs monitoring every 4 hours, blood glucose checks, and neurological assessments as needed. Adhere to unit-specific nursing standards and protocols, ensuring patient safety and quality of care. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient experience and promote a respectful, team-oriented environment. Participate in a self-scheduling system with a requirement to work 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule. No on-call duties are required. Qualifications and Required Certifications: Current RN license with stepdown nursing experience. Certifications in ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Proficiency in Meditech documentation system and use of medical equipment such as Alaris pumps, Kangaroo pumps, and Pxysis. Ability to deliver care at a patient ratio of 1:4-5, supported by 2 patient care technicians and 1 unit secretary.
